History
Molibdenos y Metales SA was founded in 1975 after the spin-off of Carburo y Metalurgia SA and followed the vision of producing and selling molybdenum oxide, ferro molybdenum and their by-products, while Carburo y Metalurgia continued the production of calcium carbonate and steel alloy additives. As part of its global expansion, in 1994 Molymet acquired the company Molymex SA from Carburo y Metalurgia SA in Cumpas, in the region of Sonora in Mexico. In 2000 Molymet Corporation was founded in Baltimore, USA; in 2001 CM Chemiemetall GmbH Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt was acquired. In 2003 Molymet acquired Sadaci NV in the port of Ghent in Belgium and at the end of 2005 Molymet Services Ltd. was founded in the United Kingdom. Since January 2010 the Molynor plant has started operations in the port of Mejillones in northern Chile. In May of the same year, Molymet launched Luoyang High-tech Metals Co., Ltd. in China as a 50% joint venture with China Moly.
